Audrey Turns 5 ~ 7.29.11

5 Years Old: 36lbs 1oz -- 50%, 41 in -- 25%



At 5 years old Audrey:

• loves, loves, LOVES to sing and dance. Any time, any place...she'll sing and dance. She'll sing songs from her CDs, from movies, from church/Primary, from the radio, but mostly she'll just make up her own song for whatever she is thinking/feeling/doing at the moment. All accompanied by dancing whenever possible. I keep telling Paul we NEED to get her into a dance class again now that she's older, but the budget doesn't quite allow it yet. And sometimes I think she is happier doing her own thing anyway! But I seriously feel like she could have a real talent for singing and dancing!
• has an outgoing attitude that must have skipped a generation because her father and I don't have it! Once we started going back to church in March '10, EVERYONE knew who Audrey was before us! "Oh, your Audrey's parents! I just love her!" I honestly don't think a Sunday has gone by in almost 1.5 years that we don't hear "I just LOVE Audrey!" at least once.
  
• loves movies. Her current favorite is "Tangled", and she has done a whole live action interpretation with friends many times. From beginning to end. It's quite impressive. I think this has been the most into a movie she's ever been, and for the longest time. She's definitely got a little Rapunzel obsession going on. ;o)
• might be the shortest kid her age (no surprise with me as a mom...definitely got my genes in the height catergory), but that sure doesn't keep her from speaking her mind or standing up for what she wants! She's always been my "spirited", spunky child and still is!
• enjoys playing with friends whenever possible. She is a social butterfly. Even if she may act shy at first, it doesn't take long for her personality to come out.
• continues to be a great big sister. It is hard though, she has been so used to helping with Owen (as we always tried to when possible from the day he was born to have her feel included), but as they've gotten older it's turned into a lot of being bossy at times. I have to remind her that I'm the mom and unless I ask her to take care of something or Owen's doing something that isn't safe, I will handle it. But they really are the best of friends. If one of them gets in trouble, the other is always there to try and console the other. They hug each other all the time, and it makes me smile.
• is a smart kid, if I do say so myself! She loves to find out new things and tell them to others right away. She loves books and reading...and is doing pretty well with small decodable books.
• got 3 shots after she turned 5 and as she'll tell you "I didn't even cry one tear!" Again, something she did not inherit from me. I cry when a needle comes close to me.

On her birthday she requested mac&cheese for dinner, I spent the day asking her again in hopes her mind would change. She changed to tacos at Taco Bell. Really? I think she's eaten there once this entire year and she picked it? Anyway, we said tacos were a great idea and took her to Someburro's. (If you have one near you, go there and try the Pollo Fundido! YUM!) Grandpa & Grandma Giberson, Uncle Will & Uncle Kyle (my dad & stepmom and their boys) were in town, so they joined us. As well as Uncle Paul, Aunt Randee & Jay (my brother, sil & nephew). After dinner we somehow managed to squeeze in some frozen yogurt at Swirl It!!! (camera was in the car)

On the 30th, Audrey had a carnival themed birthday party with her friend Kaylee whose birthday is 2 days before hers. I have TONS of pictures and am working on a slideshow and/or little scrapbook to put some in, will do in a separate post. Then I will finally be all blog caught up on our summer events!


Audrey started Kindergarten on August 10th. A big milestone for her and for us as parents. Will have a separate post on that as well.
