Catching up with Audrey

As usual, behind on blogging. So let's see what has been going on with Audrey...

2nd grade ~ Fall 2013, 7 years old

She loves 2nd grade.  Luckily she has always loved school and it still continues.  She is already reading at a 3.5 grade level {equal to a kiddo halfway through 3rd grade}.  She does love to read and write.  All her other subjects are going well right on target.  Her teachers (yes, she has two...they job share and work 2 days one week and 3 the next week) say that she is always participating, always following along and a great example.  Now of course she's not perfect and has had a couple issues...one being letting a girl at her group copy her ABC order work one day.  We had to talk about letting people do their own work, it steals their learning time and it isn't fair for you to do all the work and the other person just goof off and not do it.  Sweet girl didn't really know how to say no.  Been there...she gets that from me.

Over her Fall Break in October, Audrey had a pretty big dental procedure.  We found out in July that she had 3 cavities.  3!  I was floored!  Probably because I have only had a couple in my life so far.  One was really bad and close to the nerve, so she ended up needing a "baby" root canal and getting a silver crown on it.  She had to have the laughing gas and "sleepy juice" {conscious sedation} so they could get it all done.  We were referred to a pediatric dentist for this procedure, since our family dentist can't administer the sleepy juice.  This also meant they weren't on our insurance and this almost $900 unplanned procedure really put a wrench in the works.  But I guess it was nice that we had just finished paying off 2 other hospital bills and just put this one it it's place...silver lining???  Anyhow, they recommended this so that she doesn't hate the dentist for the rest of her life.  I was so scared for her, but she was a champ.  This is her playing in the waiting room while the sleepy juice took affect.

She also made this on her first time using an Etch-a-Sketch there.  I can't even work these things!  I was pretty impressed, but know her dad and Grandpa Giberson are pretty awesome on these, so she gets it from them.  Thank goodness for some artistic people in the family to pass on those genes!

Later in October Audrey had her 2nd grade performance.  It was all about being happy and being a friend.  They sang lots of fun songs, a few from "Despicable Me", "Mary Poppins" and even a Bruno Mars song.  She had been singing the songs so much that even Owen knew some by the time of the show.

Another highlight of October was that a piece of artwork Audrey had done was chosen by her Art teacher to be displayed down at the district offices for the month.  They wanted us to know that it was a big deal because only 2-4 pieces from each school are chosen.  She was so happy, she really loves art.

October was a busy month for Audrey, she also started Girl Scouts.  She is a Brownie (2nd & 3rd graders).  November 6th we had our Investiture Ceremony.  This is where the girls are "officially" put into the troop.  They get pinned and learn about what the pins mean.  In the bottom picture the girls are learning and singing a Brownie song.  We have 10 girls, about half and half of 2nd & 3rd graders.  I bet you could pick Audrey out without looking closely.  She's the smallest one.  :)

Our troop is new...aka we have $0 funds and need to sell lots of cookies...so Audrey would love to be your Girl Scout Cookie Girl!!!  We'll be letting you know when it's time.  It's soon!
