Great Grandpa Giberson's 80th Birthday!

This weekend had been in the works for about a year, but getting there was uncertain until just a week or two before.  I am so glad we got to go, and so glad my dad came with me on this big road trip.  I wouldn't have done it alone.  I was very sad that Paul couldn't come though.  It just wasn't a good time for him to take off of work.  The road trip with 3 kiddos wasn't as awful as I expected!  They were actually really great.  We planned our gas/meal stops and it worked out to where we weren't in the car longer than 3 hours at a time.  Of course a couple unplanned stops, or stopping earlier than planned were made, but it all worked out. Owen got a little car sick on the way up, but it wasn't bad. Here's our trip, in pictures!
FRIDAY, JUNE 14th
Ready to go!

Eating lunch {and being silly} at our first stop right outside of Kingman, AZ.
We stopped in Las Vegas for gas, a little pit stop at Starbuck's for Grandpa & fed the baby.  Then we made our way to Cedar City, UT where we stayed the night on our way up to Salt Lake area to break up the trip more.

SATURDAY

We headed the rest of the way to my Aunt Judy's house which is actually about 20 minutes or so north of Salt Lake.  For our pit stop we found a nice little park in Provo to eat lunch and let the kids play around.  They loved just running around in the grass in the 70/80ish degree weather!  A good 20+ degrees cooler than home!

We arrived early afternoon at Aunt Judy's and started the  family hugging and even some introductions. Tillie is my youngest cousin on the Giberson side & Audrey is the first great grandchild, Audrey is just under 2 months older than her.  Kind of funny.  They met each other for the first time on this trip.  And were together every minute possible.  It was very cute.  They would be great friends if we lived closer.

Tillie & Audrey

The official first family gathering to celebrate Great Grandpa's birthday at a park in Syracuse.  Yummy food, catching up with family, some more introductions
 and of course...fun & games.
Grandpa and his 80th Birthday Cupcake cake.  Cute family tree, minus the tons of names!
Rockets family members made to launch at the park.
Owen waiting for his Great Uncle Gary to give him the word to press the launch button.

Some family members decided it would be fun to catch them.  Owen is running after his rocket.
I think his was one that shot the farthest.

I thought I had it all figured out.  Now I am unsure! haha!}:

SUNDAY

Sunday we headed to attend church with Great Grandpa & Great Nana Karla.  It was also Father's Day.

Father's Day Picture sent to Paul.  Yes, it was extra special to be celebrating my Grandpa's 80th on Father's Day weekend, but it was extra sad that we were away from Paul on Father's Day.
The kids had a blast playing in Aunt Judy's backyard.  If there was a chance to be there, they were!
Audrey, Owen & Tillie
Aunt Judy had an awesome basement game room and TONS of toys to play with too!
Some of the family.
We played lots of games during the weekend.  Here is my Uncle Todd helping the younger kids with "Reverse Charades".  A very fun game.  Here they are acting out "The Brady Bunch".  They were just doing what Uncle Todd told them to do, since none of them actually know what that show is.  And I totally guessed it!
 MONDAY

My dad had a friend that he went to meet up with in Salt Lake, some other family members had already gone home, so we went with my Aunt Judy, Uncle Gary, cousin Jena and Aunt Lynette to an indoor family fun center.  The kids had fun on the inflatables and we also bowled.  I lost horribly.  Sure the kids had bumpers, but still.  Their scores were way better than mine!

The kids thought it was hilarious that I was giving Alison a bath in the sink, but it just worked best!

TUESDAY

We headed to Salt Lake and went to the Utah Hogle Zoo.  It was very hot for all the Utah folk, and while we were hot too, it wasn't all that bad.  I mean, we don't even go to the Phoenix Zoo in the summer!

They had a really great exhibit going on with different animals made out of Legos!
The kids had fun "hunting" for them.

Kiddos with Grandpa!
Owen kept trying to hide from getting pictures.  But I quickly snapped this one and he thought I was hilarious.

I was taking a picture of my Dad & Alison in front of this bear size chart and a lady asked if I wanted her to take one of us all.  Sure.  I was rarely in any pictures.

Grandpa was so nice to volunteer to carry Alison in the baby carrier, but I figured I should relieve him.
Audrey took this picture.

Owen's favorite animal is the giraffe.

This water fountain is hilarious.  Aunt Judy says it's been at the zoo forever.
She is pretty sure her kids have some pictures just like these.

Amazing view from the zoo!
Lego penguins

The gorillas were made completely out of Legos too!

Nice photo bomb, Audrey.

After the zoo we headed to get shave ice and then to a park before meeting everyone for dinner on Great Grandpa Giberson's actual birthday.

Kids found some fun stuff to play with!

Owen thought it would be funny to take "selfies".

We had a yummy dinner at Buca di Beppo, perfect for a party of 20!
Great Grandpa blowing out his candles.  No, there weren't 80!

WEDNESDAY

We headed home.  We never got a chance to stop by Temple Square in Salt Lake like I had planned.  But we hopped out real quick for a little tour and some pictures.  Audrey loved that this Temple really looks like a castle.  I always loved it too.  My Grandpa & Grandma Giberson (who passed in 1995) were married in this Temple.

Inside the Tabernacle

Wednesday night we stayed over in Henderson, NV, just outside of Vegas, to break up our trip home.  This was an especially good idea on the way home.  We were all just a bit crankier from all the driving around.  We arrived home Thursday afternoon, and we were so glad.  So was Papa!

I am very sad that I don't have any pictures of the kids with Great Grandpa Giberson.  Actually, my dad took some so they are on his phone.  I will need to remember to get those from him!
