This is the car seat Audrey currently rides in, and has been in since she was 20lbs (which wasn't until about 13 months!). It's weight limit is 40lbs and Audrey is just about 32lbs. She won't be grown out of it for a while. (Clearly this is an old picture of her in it.)
Since Owen's fast approaching the limits on the infant carrier, we did research and found one that he could use for a long time (up to 65lbs), and can also be used rear facing until he's at least 1 year. It went on sale and so we bought it!
We first tried to put it in the middle, where he was currently sitting. No luck. It overlapped with Audrey's car seat, which is currently behind the driver's seat. Next, we tried to put it behind the passenger seat. Since it has to be rear facing the only way to fit it would be for the passenger seat to be up as far as possible, and basically no one could ever ride in the car with me! That was not an option, and neither was buying a bigger vehicle (darn!). Now even though we probably have a couple more months before Owen reaches the limits, he doesn't really like riding in the infant carrier anymore. He strains his neck practically the whole time he's in it so he can see. He's so heavy in it that, while convenient, I don't like to carry him in it anymore. Since he's sitting better it's much easier to either carry him, or use the cart cover and have him sit in shopping carts. I also don't use the infant carrier in the stroller any more for the same reason...he just wants to sit up, not recline back.
We then thought Audrey could ride in the new one and Owen could have hers. Problem solved. Not really when we realized we'd still have to buy Owen a car seat once he was over 40lbs, which we're guessing is not really all that far off. We would also then need to buy Audrey a booster seat or something once she outgrew the new seat. So, that would mean an additional 2 car seat purchases in the future. We take the car seat back to Target and get our money back. Finally, we decide to get Audrey's next and final car seat (up to 65lbs in 5 point harness and up to 100lbs in booster), so that Owen can ride in her current one. They don't fit next to each other, so Owen is now behind the driver seat and Audrey behind the passenger seat.
Yes, I know my son is riding in a car seat with flowers on it. We are going to get either a replacement cover from Graco (if the newer model covers still fit this model), or buy a slip on cover from someone that makes them. Until then Owen doesn't seem to mind it! Now once Owen reaches this seat's 40lb limit we will buy him the same model Audrey just got and that will be his last and final car seat. Who knew it would be this confusing?

Hopefully no one looks in your car to see you have a boy sitting in a flower-covered car seat! haha Just kidding. It's just a gimmick by manufacturers to get you to buy another product anyway. Finding a car seat is tough! We went to Babies R Us and were able to "test" out which one would fit in our car before buying (something Target wouldn't allow). Turns out - none of them would. So we bought a Recaro brand online (it was half off) that has a 5-point harness and up to 70lb, and we didn't have to buy a bigger car. Darn? :)
