Audrey Turns 3!!! 7/29/09
Audrey was invited to 6 birthday parties in July alone. This was the first year she has really gotten into birthdays and has loved singing Happy Birthday to the birthday person. She kept asking about her birthday and I'd say, "Next is _______'s party, it's not your turn yet." She was very patient and finally after her friend's party on the 25th I could say that it was her turn next. All she requested was a pink cake. Even though her favorite color is green, it was all about the pink cake.
I opted for a place that would take care of everything. Knowing I would be 6 weeks from my due date and how I stress every time I have any sort of gathering at my house--whether it be for 5 or 50 people--I thought this would be the best option. I looked at all sorts of indoor options, since it's even too hot to swim here in July! So, we partied at Pump it Up of Tempe! We got to invite all the kiddos we wanted, got a lot of play time and even got free pizza & drinks for the kiddos (part of a promotion they were running on Wednesdays). I didn't get many pictures, they all just came out as pictures of fuzzy kids jumping and flying down slides. Here are the few good ones I got:
Bouncing Fun is over, off to the Party Room!
Mmmm...pizza! Where Audrey ate about half of hers all because her friends were. (She doesn't like pizza.)
Ice Cream Cake from Dairy Queen that was a huge hit! She was sooo happy that is had princesses on it and it had pink frosting (which was actually whip cream). I thought it would be half ice cream, half cake. It was actually half vanilla, half chocolate soft serve with a layer of chocolate fudge crunchies in the middle. So, no cake. But that worked out perfectly because Audrey just usually eats frosting and ice cream and no cake. It was sooo tasty!!!
Audrey's favorite part, blowing out the candles. Of course like at every birthday party with little kids, other kids started to blow the candles out even before the singing was finished. Audrey DID NOT like this. She turned to the kids on her right and said, "No, this is not your party!" I was a bit embarrassed because she didn't say it nicely. But in her defense she had been waiting for a long time for her turn to blow out candles, and she never once tried to blow the candles out on anyone else's cake.
She loved her ice cream cake!
One of her favorite gifts that she had to put on right away after she opened it. Of course because it was a fancy Sleeping Beauty outfit, complete with tiara and her first pair of earrings (clip-on)! Definitely a lot fancier than the Wal-Mart one she's been sporting for the last 6 months!
Owen's Baby Shower & Nursery 8/1/09
A few days after Audrey's birthday there was a baby shower for Owen. I was not so sure about having a baby shower, since I had one with Audrey, but everyone assured me that it's not taboo since it's a different sex. Plus, doesn't every child deserve to be celebrated with some sort of party no matter where they come in the line-up? And a lot more people came than I expected, it was overwhelming--in a nice way! Our little boy finally has some clothes and we have a nice start-up on the necessities like diapers and wipes. It lifted a little financial weight off our shoulders. My girlfriends and family are the best, I am so blessed! Now for a few pictures from the shower and finally, some of the nursery.
You guessed it, green & brown are colors from the nursery. My favorite was the dark brown (chocolate), light brown (root beer) and green (apple) licorice I stumbled upon while shopping at Sprouts. I never buy it, but it was on sale and what a perfect excuse! Plus, it was cute on the table!
The yummy cake ordered from the mom of one of my preschool students. It was a 2 layer marble cake w/chocolate filling, covered in green fondant. The monkey matched a picture I sent her of a pillow from the nursery. All the brown on/around the cake tasted like tootsie rolls. Mmmmm!
Cute diaper cake my friend Emily gave us that perfectly matched the room!
The Nursery
With birthday season over, the room done and the wonderful shower that gave us a great start on boy/baby things, the waiting game really begins. Today is 5 weeks, 3 days till my due date. Having an ultrasound on Monday to see how big this kid is and estimate how big he may get by the due date.
