A Couple of Firsts

Yesterday, Audrey had her first dentist appointment at Sweet Tooth Pediactric Dentistry. They were having a day just for people who do not have dental insurance, which we don't for Audrey yet. I looked into taking her when she turned 1year, but everyone had different opinions on when they should first be seen. Even the different pediatric dentists I called said different things. So, when a friend told me about the promotion this office was doing I figured I'd better do it now since she is close to having all her baby teeth (all except the 2nd set of molars). Of course, they would have liked to of seen her as soon as her first tooth came in, per ADA recommendations. Oh well. She did pretty well through everything which included x-rays, cleaning, flouride treatmant, and the exam. There was some whining and the hygenist and dentist both commented on her strong lips! But there were no tears. They said everything looked great and that I was doing a good job with her brushing. Usually it's pretty easy, as she has always loved toothbrushes (see picture above)! I just should have started flossing as soon as two teeth were touching. So that will be a new thing to start. She even joined the "No Cavity Club". Dr. Tim did warn us that we should start putting some money away for braces, as her bottom teeth are really tight and usually you want space with their baby teeth. I could guess that as I noticed one tooth is already a little crooked from being crowded. Looks like she might be getting her "Man size teeth in a child size mouth" from her mama. (That is a direct quote from the dental hygenist who was there when I had to get 4 teeth pulled before I had my braces put on...not the best thing to say to a 15 year old girl, as you can see I still remember it!) She got a little bag full of fun dental treats, a balloon, and a token to use in a machine where she got a bracelet. The only bad thing that happened was that she vomitted right outside the door as we left. Apparently, if they swallow a little of the flouride treatment it upsets their stomach. It wasn't too much, but it freaked us all out as this was her first time vomitting.

Oh, P.S. Don't take your 2 yr old camping during the first couple weeks of potty training...yikes. Maybe if she was a boy it would have been different. We went backwards in that department, but are getting back on track. Sigh...I guess that's what I get for thinking how smoothly everything was going! Audrey had a great time camping though, here are some pictures for our Labor Day camping trip.

Some potty shots I'm sure Audrey will treasure later...
Isn't this what glow sticks are for?
